Giorgio Armani closed Milan Fashion Week on Sunday with good vibes and a front row that included frequent guests such as Cate Blanchette and Juliette Binoche. The 89-year-old designer employed translucent, diaphanous fabrics alongside silks and satin to create lightness and movement. Political Cartoons View All 1176 Images“Vibrations, that means colors, that means movement, that means a structure that moves on the body,″ Armani said. The designer said he sensed a change in this season's Fashion Week, with less frivolity. There is also a little research, which has to be part of this craft,'' Armani said.

“Judging is an instinct.” “You’re already giving a score to this look in your mind, just express it.” So droned the Voice of God at the Sunnei show over the weekend as Milan Fashion Week drew to a close. Well, who doesn’t know truth when they hear it? This season the subject was the court of public opinion that is the social media sphere, where everyone is free to weigh in on everything. And as usual, while the clothes illustrating the issue were good (Sunnei is essentially grunge for the thinking person), even better was the point. Sometimes that can be hard to find under the plethora of “real clothes,” razzle-dazzle showmanship and archive-diving that currently seems to be the default in fashion.

Yet, if Gucci’s new designer Sabato de Sarno was rattled before he took his bow for the Italian luxury house at Milan fashion week on Friday, he didn’t show it. Where Michele was an overt maximalist with retro references, de Sarno mined the Gucci archive and codes in a more stripped-back way. Oxblood red dominated the collection, inspired by The Savoy hotel in London where Guccio Gucci worked in the late 1800s. The bling was, in fact, a reference to the Marina jewelry collection that appeared in Gucci campaigns in the late 1960s. The rest of the embellished crystal designs were inspired by embroideries de Sarno found on 1960s clutch bags in the Gucci archive.

Milan, Italy CNN —A new dawn rose in Milan on Thursday evening as British designer Peter Hawkings made his hotly anticipated debut in the creative director chair at Tom Ford. Hawkings said the show was a moment he felt like he'd been preparing for "my entire life." “Tom handing over the baton obviously meant everything to me.”Ford's high-octane sex appeal was still present in this collection, designed by Hawkings. “It was important for (the Tom Ford) woman (to) come closer to the man, because I think there was a disconnect before.… due to Tom being in LA and the design team being here. De Sarno’s debut Friday, nine months after being hired in the wake of Michele’s surprise departure, was the most anticipated on the Milan Fashion Week calendar for next spring and summer womenswear. The fervor was enough to fill the front row with Hollywood A-listers including Julia Roberts and Ryan Gosling. In one recent interview, De Sarno professed admiration for Brutalist architecture, suggesting a love of the essential, and his collection was exactly that. A tiny leather bra top in embossed leather was paired with a matching midi skirt. The conversation started this week by De Sarno is to be continued.

Fendi kicks off Milan's womenswear week with Roman ease

MILAN, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Milan kicked off its catwalk calendar on Wednesday, with Italian luxury label Fendi exploring the "ease of dressing with a certain Roman freeedom" at its womenswear fashion show. Milan Fashion Week follows New York and London events in which designers have been presenting their creations for spring/summer 2024. A patchwork of fabrics recreated Fendi's F logo on coats and dresses through "a playful and abstract exploration" of the symbol Karl Lagerfeld created in 1966, a year after joining the Roman brand as creative director. Milan Fashion Week includes 62 physical fashion shows of spring summer collections. Milan fashion week will mark the debut of Sabato De Sarno as creative director of Gucci, Peter Hawkings as creative director of Tom Ford, and Simone Bellotti as creative director of Bally.

MILAN (AP) — Thousands came out in a rain to watch an open-air Diesel show during Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday, making the denim-centric brand the hottest ticket in town. A latex dress hugged the form in a nearly nude beige, somewhere on the border between transparency and cover. Zip pockets are sewn into bra tops, while a trio of fanny packs become a bandeau top: perfect for the festival circuit. The technology going into the textiles is so cutting-edge that Rosso said that part of the production site is sealed off from the rest to protect the secrecy. “Touch the garments, and you will go out of your mind,’’ Rosso said.

MILAN (AP) — A hush fell over the Fendi runway as the front-row filled with supermodels signaling the show was about to begin: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss had taken their seats. Kim Jones’ Spring-Summer 2024 collection for Fendi unveiled during the first day of Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday was a twist on knitwear, anchored by leather. The first look set the tone: A form-hugging color-block knit dresses in mocha, baby blue, salmon and ivory, with a double sash trailing at the waist lending drama and movement. Slinky, clinging monochrome knit dresses had peekaboo cutouts. A chunkier ribbed knit gave a chenille-soft appearance in a long jacket and skirt with a healthy front slit.

Despite their vastly differing personal styles and occupations, they have all been spotted in a pair of Gucci horsebit loafers. In mid-June, coinciding with the menswear shows at Milan Fashion Week, Gucci will stage an exhibition celebrating the legacy of its signature loafer. In 1974, George H. W. Bush wore a pair of horsebit loafers to meet then-President Gerald Ford. Through the decadesThe success of Gucci’s horsebit loafers has been far-reaching, and the secret to their ongoing relevance may lie in the shoe’s versatility. The horsebit loafer is Gucci’s answer to the near-philosophical question: What shoes do I wear?
